JOIN US Friday November 18 from 6-8 pm as the Yates Gallery of Siena College presents the first collection of Charles Gianfagna’s life work in the exhibit Charles Gianfagna, A Retrospective. The exhibition will open on Friday, November 18, and continue through December 20, 2011 in the Standish Library, room L-26. An opening reception and artist’s talk will be held at the Gallery on November 18 at 6 pm.
The Siena art exhibit is a tour through the artist’s body of work, beginning with a 6th grade art show entry. The work includes cut paper pieces, shadow studies, Biographs and culminates with the artists latest inspiration: Messages from Angels. Charles was surrounded by a family of classically trained artists. At a very young age he decided he would pursue architecture, to incorporate the artistic legacy without following directly in his family’s footsteps. He earned a Bachelors of Architecture from The Cooper Union and a Masters from Columbia University. With a markedly successful resume as a Master Facilities Planner and Builder, Charles has continued to paint throughout his career and now his work in both arenas is on full display locally. he artist, formerly the head of St. Peter’s Hospital Master Facilities Plan, recently showcased a different opening; the grand opening of the hospital’s $259 million renovation and modernization project that brought him to Albany eight years ago.
I recently had the opportunity to record a news segment with Fox 23 for a program called Stories From Your Street. For everyone in the Albany area check it out Tuesday the 15th at 10:00/10:30 pm on Fox 23. I will try an upload a video once the segment has aired. -Charles
My wife bought me a copy of “If the Church Were Christian (Rediscovering
the Values of Jesus)”, written by Philip Gulley. It’s a small well organized
book, 191 pages and an easy read. Philip Gulley is a fallen away Catholic
currently a Quaker minister, author of many books and is the host of Porch
Talk on the Any Award winning Indiana PBS affiliate WYFI show “Across
Indiana”.
I discovered, as I began reading about his vision of Christianity, that we had
a experiences and beliefs in common. The more I read the more his themes
resonated with key turning points in my life. Philip Gulley eloquently
articulated significant feelings as well as experiences that have directed my
life’s journey and fashioned my spirituality.
The book is organized by refreshing but sometimes startling discussion
questions e.g. chapter 1: Jesus Would Be a Model for Living Rather Then
and Object of Worship, chapter 2: Affirming Our Potential Would Be More
Important Than Condemning Our Brokenness, chapter 3: Reconciliation
Would And the Valued over Judgment, chapter 4: Gracious Behavior
Would Be More Important Than Right Belief, chapter 5: Inviting Questions
Would Be Valued More Than Supplying Answers, chapter 8: Piece Would
Be More Important than Power, chapter 10: This Life Would Be More
Important than spell it the Afterlife. By the way these were my favorite
chapters. If you haven’t read the book I highly recommend it and would like
to hear your comments.
